Bio Microneedling is a revolutionary patented skincare treatment. This procedure utilises nano particles from sponges that penetrate deeply to stimulate collagen production and enhance skin texture. It targets active acne, fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, pigmentation, sun damaged skin and stretch marks.
What makes bio microneedling different to traditional skin needling
Conventional skin needling uses a motorised pen to create thousands of micro-channels in the skin, which triggers a wound-healing response and new collagen. Bio microneedling reaches the same outcome by a different route. It uses microscopic spicules harvested from freshwater sponges, which work into the skin and set off the same regenerative process without a needle cartridge.
Practically, that means no needling device, no cartridge, and a treatment that many people find easier to tolerate. The trade-off is a distinctive shedding phase in the days afterwards, which is the treatment working rather than a side effect.
What it treats
- Active acne
- Acne scars
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Pigmentation
- Sun damaged skin
- Stretch marks
- General texture and tone
The shedding phase
For roughly 3 to 5 days after treatment the skin typically feels dry, tight and slightly gritty, then begins to flake. This is expected. It’s the old surface layer clearing to reveal the newer skin underneath, and it’s the reason clients tend to book bio microneedling with a week of low social commitments rather than the day before an event.
Your therapist will send you home with aftercare and the products to support that window. Following it closely makes a visible difference to the end result.
When to expect results
Skin usually looks its best from about 2 weeks after treatment, once the shedding has finished and the new collagen has begun to organise. Like all collagen-driven treatments, a course spaced over several months does more than a single session.
Pairing it with other treatments
Bio microneedling addresses surface texture, pigment and scarring. HIFU addresses laxity and lift at depth. They target different problems at different depths, so clients working on both texture and firmness often run the two in sequence rather than choosing between them. We’ll map that out at consultation.
Common questions
Is bio microneedling the same as microneedling?
It reaches a similar outcome by a different mechanism. Traditional microneedling uses a motorised pen with needle cartridges. Bio microneedling uses microscopic spicules from freshwater sponges, so there’s no needling device involved.
How long does the shedding last?
Typically 3 to 5 days, starting with dryness and tightness and moving into visible flaking. It’s part of the treatment rather than a complication. Plan the week accordingly.
Can it be done on active acne?
Yes, it’s one of the concerns the treatment targets, along with acne scarring. Your therapist will assess your skin at consultation and tell you if anything should be settled first.
