This innovative technology utilizes focused ultrasound waves to enhance the skin & promote smoother skin.
What HIFU does
HIFU stands for High Intensity Focused Ultrasound. It is a safe, non-surgical ultrasound treatment that counteracts the effects of time and gravity on your skin. The treatment uses the body’s own regenerative response to manipulate collagen to gently and gradually lift skin on the eyebrow, under the chin and on the neck, and smooth lines and wrinkles on the décolletage.
Because the energy is focused at depth rather than spread across the surface, HIFU can reach the foundational layer that cosmetic surgery addresses without breaking the skin. That’s why there’s no wound to heal and no recovery period to plan around.
What clients come to us for
- A more defined and lifted face
- Smoother skin texture
- Reduction in wrinkles and fine lines
- Enhanced jawline definition
- Non-surgical facelift benefits
Areas we treat
HIFU is priced by area, so you only treat what you want to change. Lower face targets jowls and jawline slackness. Full face adds the cheeks, brow and the area around the eyes. Full neck addresses the loose skin under the chin and down the throat, which is usually the first place people notice ageing. Décolletage covers the chest, where sun exposure shows as crepiness and fine lines.
Most clients book lower face, full face and neck, or the full face, neck and décolletage package. Your therapist will map the areas with you at your consultation before anything is booked.
What a session is like
A face and neck procedure typically takes 60 to 90 minutes, while a chest treatment on its own takes approximately 30 minutes. Your skin is cleansed, gel is applied, and the handpiece delivers ultrasound energy in a series of pulses at set depths.
As the ultrasound energy is delivered, you’ll feel tiny amounts of energy being deposited to precise depths, indicating that the collagen-building process has been initiated. Comfort levels vary from person to person, but the sensation only lasts while the ultrasound energy is being delivered. The device can be adjusted throughout, and many clients fall asleep during treatment.
When you’ll see results
You may see some initial effect straight away, but the ultimate results take place over 2 to 3 months as your body naturally regenerates collagen. Since the procedure stimulates your own collagen production, how long the results last really depends on you. The treatment produces new collagen on the inside, but your natural ageing process will dictate how long that translates into visible results on the outside.
Most clients only need a few treatments, spread out 2 to 3 months apart. Because skin continues to age, future touch-up treatments help you keep pace with it.
Downtime
With a single HIFU treatment there’s no downtime. After your procedure you can resume your normal activities immediately, without any special post-treatment measures. We’ve had clients come to the clinic on their lunchbreak, then reapply make-up and go back to work.
Are you a good candidate?
A good HIFU candidate has mild to moderate skin laxity, where the skin begins to feel and look less firm. Examples include a lowered eyebrow line, loose skin on the neck, sagging under the chin, and lines or wrinkles on the chest. The only way to know for certain is a consultation with a practitioner.
Why e-skin
Our clinic has performed over 11,000 HIFU treatments and uses the TGA approved HIPRO V, which is one of the best machines on the market. That volume matters with HIFU, because settings and depth selection are judgement calls made per face, not a preset the machine picks for you.
Common questions
Can HIFU therapy replace a face lift procedure?
HIFU Therapy treats the deep foundational layer addressed in cosmetic surgery. It is considered a great alternative to surgery, especially for those not ready for surgery or for patients looking to extend the effects of cosmetic surgery.
Is HIFU safe?
The HIFU procedure has been used safely in over 250,000 treatments worldwide. Ultrasound energy itself has been used safely in the medical field for more than 50 years.
Is the HIFU treatment painful?
Most people tolerate HIFU well and the procedure is designed to be relatively comfortable. Some people may describe the treatment as mildly uncomfortable and some may find it not bothersome at all. The HIFU itself is able to be adjusted to ensure the clients comfort. Many clients even fall asleep during HIFU treatments.
Are there any side effects?
The skin might appear flushed at first, this can be during treatment but sometimes lasting longer, the redness should however disappear within a few hours. Some clients experience slight swelling, tingling or tenderness to the touch, but these are temporary in nature. Other, less common post-procedural effects may include temporary bruising or numbness on small areas of skin. As with any cosmetic procedure, there is the possibility of other rare effects, which your practitioner will review with you.
How is HIFU different to laser?
HIFU Therapy uses sound energy, tried and true ultrasound, which has unique properties that allow it to bypass the surface of the skin to treat depths not matched by any other non-invasive cosmetic device. Lasers rely on light energy, which can’t reach deeper skin layers at an optimal temperature, so laser treatments typically only treat superficial skin. Since the two technologies often treat different types of skin issues, they’re actually very compatible.
